This service will be available from January 2008 onwards and are dates are organised and agreed via the Deanery and directors of medical education or postgraduate education managers. Morning sessions normally last from 10-1, afternoon sessions from 130-430, and whole day sessions from 10-4, but different times can be arranged as convenient. |
| Description | The London Deanery is offering free workshops involving 'hands-on' training in the skills needed for good supervision. These take place on site in trusts. They are led by John Launer, senior lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic and author of ‘Supervision, Mentoring and Coaching: One-to-One Encounters in Medical Education’ (ASME, 2006). The workshops address the issue of how to balance support with challenge when supervising everyone from high fliers to doctors in difficulty. The skills taught are helpful not just in clinical supervision but also in educational supervision, mentorship, teamwork and training generally. These workshops will be useful to all those involved in the training of colleagues in the workplace but do not cover the ‘nuts and bolts’ of MMC. The workshops are for groups of 8-16 participants. Groups are made up from any combination of interested people, e.g. members of a unit, a team, a group of consultants, educational supervisors for foundation year doctors, etc. Course places are free - This course is open to all those involved in teaching and training on behalf of the London Deanery.
