Course detail

Course Supervision skills for clinical teachers (Deanery one-day workshop)
Date and Time Tuesday 16 March 2010
Monday 19 April 2010
Wednesday 12 May 2010
Description This one-day workshop offers 'hands-on' training in the essential conversational skills needed for good supervision. In particular it addresses the issue of how to balance confirmation with challenge when supervising everyone from high fliers to doctors in difficulty. The skills taught are helpful not just in clinical supervision but also in educational supervision, mentorship and training generally. Much of the workshop is based on participants' own working experiences. Please come expecting to talk about current cases, and dilemmas with patients, trainees, colleagues and teams. Please note that the workshop is not a comprehensive course in how to be a clinical or educational supervisor, but will equip you with essential conversational skills for those roles. The training does not cover the contents of the Gold Guide (e.g. roles and responsibilities of educational supervisors) or the ‘nuts and bolts’ of MMC (e.g. curricula or work-based assessment). Further details about the London Deanery's Supervision Skills initiative can be found on the separate Supervision Skills section of this website at: http://www.faculty.londondeanery.ac.uk/supervision-skills-for-clinical-teachers
