Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education

The course is offered by the Institute of Education and will develop your practical skills and understanding of learning, teaching, assessment, and course and curriculum design, development and management within the structure of higher and professional education.

Duration
This programme, which is worth 60 credits at master's level, is designed to fit into the institutional commitments of busy professionals. While the programme can be completed in one year, we expect that you will follow it over two years. Many institutions may wish to tie it in with a staff member’s period of probation.

Who is this course for?
While the programme caters primarily for academic and academic-related staff in higher education, it can also meet the need of individuals with training and/or supervisory roles in educational or professional institutions.

Entry requirements
We normally require a good honours degree or its equivalent. You should also currently be employed in an appropriate educational or professional institution, as the programme requires practical work in a teaching or training context.

Features
This programme has been accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) as a route to becoming a fellow (FHEA).  It is linked to our MA Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education.

How is this course assessed?
Assessment is largely portfolio-based, and will provide evidence of your developing professional practice. You will also submit a 3,000 to 3,500-word essay or practical activity, accompanied by a rationale and reflective critique, for each of two of the optional modules that you attend.
