'Managing the trainee in difficulty' is a task that can cause considerable anxiety for postgraduate medical educators.  But there are a few principles and some simple tools that can help.  These are covered in a newly developed DVD called 'Performance in Practice'.  The DVD is a learning resource targeted at educational and clinical supervisors that has been commissioned specially for the London Deanery.  Copies of the DVD have recently been circulated to Training Programme Directors, Directors of Medical Education and Heads of Specialty Schools and the resource will also be made available via Synapse in the near future.
