National Trainer Survey 2007

13 Aug 2008

The National Survey of Trainers, 2007 aimed to survey all Consultant and GP Trainers (including Foundation Tutors) in the UK. A total of 7,796 Consultant responses (response rate 19.4%) and 2,211 GP Trainer responses (44.9%) were received.  The important issues for Consultants related to time and service pressure, which were also raised by GP Trainers. This was particularly apparent in the free text comments and, in the case of Consultants, the items relating to workload and service demands in their department.

When comparing Consultant and GP responses, the first point to note is the high scores seen for GP Trainers across the majority of the survey items compared to Consultants, and in particular with regards to formal training Trainers received in the last three years. In addition, the survey shows that GP Trainers are more likely to have been appraised for their educational responsibilities, and have a better understanding of the curriculum and their trainees.
