Leading and managing change and improvement: in clinical education

03 Dec 2008

This new course, offered by the Institute of Education and facilitated by staff from the the London Deanery and the London Centre for Leadership in Learning, is strongly recommended for all clinicians with an educational leadership role. It will also be useful for those engaged in initiatives to develop clinical leadership within their own organisations.

Education leaders in health and social care carry a ‘double burden’; leading and managing programmes in a rapidly changing global environment whilst working in collaboration with a range of health and social care delivery partners with their own finance and service-driven agendas.  This creates tensions between education, training and service; tensions which are played out against a complex professional regulatory and policy backdrop.  In such an environment, effective leadership is essential both to ensure effective learning, but also to provide a future workforce that is competent and safe.

This 30 credit Masters level module will aim to address these issues, and will address the needs of the growing number of clinicians in educational leadership positions who are attending the Institute.  'Leading and managing change and improvement: in clinical education' will be offered a one of a suite of recommended modules as part of the MA in Clinical Education but is also promoted as a short course by the Institute’s collaborating partner, the London Deanery, as an integral part of its faculty development provision.  The course will run between April - June 2009 as a mixture of whole days and evening sessions, the course fee for 2008/09 is £654.
