Introducing the NEW Trainees in Difficulty Management Framework
03 Sep 2010
The London Deanery ‘Trainees in Difficulty Management Framework’ brings together, for the first time, Deanery and national best practice along with local and national guidance on the identification and management of trainees in difficulty. It applies equally to trainees in primary and secondary care, foundation and specialty training, medicine and dentistry.
The Framework is an operational guide intended primarily for use by:
• clinical & educational supervisors
• training programme directors
• directors of medical education
• medical directors
• medical staffing managers
• and all London Deanery staff
What does the Framework cover?
The Framework covers how to identify that there might be an issue impacting on a trainee’s progress, how to explore and investigate the perceived issue, guidance for successful resolution, best practice for recording decisions and discussions, and escalation pathways for accessing Deanery support. The Framework also includes Local Education Provider and Deanery responsibilities with regard to disciplinary issues, Serious Untoward Incidents, and transfer of information.
