Fellowships in Medical Education 2011
PLEASE NOTE: Recruitment for 2011 opportunities is now closed. Subject to the availability of ongoing funding we intend to run the FME scheme into 2012 and onwards. Vacancies for starting FME posts in 2012 will be advertised in June/July 2011. Details will be posted on the Faculty Development website and will also be available directly from the 6 host trusts.
Applications are invited for appointment to eleven Fellowships in Medical Education (FME) placements starting during 2011. These unique posts offer an exciting opportunity for Specialty Registrars to develop their experience and skills as medical educators. Fellowships will consist of an out of programme experience for a period of six months at one of six London based Trusts.
As part of the six-month attachment, successful applicants can expect to take part in regular Trust-based teaching activities, attend monthly learning sets at London Deanery, attend/teach on Deanery Faculty Development courses, receive financial support to undertake a Masters level programme in Education, have a designated educational mentor, and undertake education research. The posts will also include one day per week clinical training in the specialty of the applicant’s choice.
The FME posts are funded by London Deanery and employment of post holders will be through the FME ‘Host Trust’. Payment will be at the relevant point of the specialty training scale. There is no out of hour’s requirement and as the posts are ‘out of programme’ they carry no prospective approval for training and study leave is integral to the post.
The opportunities are open to Specialty Registrars in run-through training. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate that their Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) has been approved. The FME posts are available at the Trusts for the following start periods:
• February-April 2011 (*exact start date negotiable within this window)
• August-October 2011 (*exact start date negotiable within this window)
The London Trusts listed below will be managing recruitment and hosting the FME placements. For enquiries please contact each Trust directly. Trusts will be open for receiving applications during July with closing dates in early/mid August and a Selection Day for shortlisted candidates in early September 2010.
