Fellowships in Medical Education 2010

10 Sep 2009

PLEASE NOTE: the deadline for applying to these opportunities has passed and we are now closed for applications.  Providing that funding allows we hope to advertise further Fellowship opportunities for 2011 - please watch this site for updates.

Applications are invited for appointment to ten Fellowships in Medical Education (FME).  These unique posts offer an exciting opportunity for Specialty Registrars to develop their experience and skills as medical educators.  Fellowships consist of an out of programme experience for a period of 6 months attached to an ‘education unit’ within a London NHS Trust. There will be two intakes for FME placements in 2010.  Posts are available for February-April or August-October 2010 starts*. (*start date negotiable within this window)

The posts are open to Specialty Registrars in run-through training and employment will be through the Trust where the Fellowship is hosted.  Payment will be at the relevant point of the specialty training scale.

The FME posts are available at the following London Trusts:

• St Barts and the London NHS Trust
• Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
• North Middlesex University Hospital Trust
• North West London Hospitals Trust
• Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Monday 3 August 2009.  Further information and guidance about eligibility can be found on the FAQ section.

Out of Programme Experience (OOPE)

If short listed for the Selection Day candidates will be expected to have discussed and explored OOPE with their Educational Supervisors and Training Programme Directors prior to attending. In addition, GP candidates will need to have discussed their application with the Deanery's GP Recruitment and Workforce team. If offered an FME placement candidates will be required to organise completion of an OOPE request form as evidence that the proposed time out of programme is supported.
