London Deanery and Trust colleagues will soon receive copies of the new Professional Development Framework for Supervisors and Professional Development Portfolio. 

The Framework applies to all those doctors acting as clinical and educational supervisors working within Trusts and other local education providers within London.

It summarises London’s approach to meeting the regulatory requirements of PMETB and the policy direction of Lord Darzi’s NHS Next Stage Review.  In order to meet PMETB’s regulatory deadline, implementation of the Framework is required by January 2010. The Framework requires local education providers to establish and maintain:

• a database of all clinical and educational supervisors
• a system of portfolio-based review of educational supervisots conducted by the Director of Medical Education (or nominated deputy)
• a rolling and developmental programme of faculty development (training the trainers)
