2008-09 A year of great achievement

31 March 2009 saw the Faculty Development Unit complete its first full financial year of activity. 2008-09 has been an incredibly busy and productive year for us. Highlights of some of the main achievements are as follows – and full details about all of our achievements can be found in the attached Annual Report;
Highlights
- Establishment of a Fellowships in Medical Education scheme – with 10 fellows successfully taking up placements in host trusts during 2008-09
- Delivery of over 60 centrally run Faculty Development short courses
- Set up and ongoing development of the London Deanery Mentoring Service
- Introduction of financial, course administration and consultancy support for Specialty School faculty development initiatives
- Development of a suite of 15 open access e-learning modules available via the FD website
- Development of the PMETB Standards for Trainers project and implementation of the pilot scheme in collaboration with a 16 London Trusts
In addition to this during 2008-09 our Faculty Development Lead, Dr Tim Swanwick was recognised for his own contributions to the professional development of clinical teachers by being appointed as Visiting Professor in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Postgraduate Medical School, University of Bedfordshire. Congratulations to Prof Swanwick!
