This module focuses on interprofessional education (IPE) in the clinical context.

We begin by considering the policy and service background and context to IPE, then move on to thinking about the role of the teacher and how you might go about introducing IPE activities into the clinical learning environment. This module links closely with the e-learning modules Facilitating learning in the workplace, Small group teaching and Teaching clinical skills.

By the end of the module you should have clarified your understanding of the principles of IPE, the stated outcomes in terms of improving teamwork and ultimately patient care, and raised your awareness of opportunities for implementing IPE in your own clinical teaching context. You will be aware of some of the advantages of developing and implementing interprofessional learning as well as some of the challenges and constraints. You will also have an opportunity to apply the learning from the module to your own practice through carrying out activities and reflecting on these.
