| Description | Education leaders in healthcare carry a ‘double burden’; leading and managing programmes in a rapidly changing global environment while working in collaboration with a range of health and social care delivery partners with finance and service-driven agendas. This creates tensions between education, training and service; tensions which are played out against a complex professional regulatory and policy backdrop. In such an environment, effective leadership is essential both to ensure effective learning, but also to provide a future workforce that is competent and safe. This Masters level course is strongly recommended for all clinicians with an educational leadership role. It will also be useful for those engaged in initiatives to develop clinical leadership within their own organisations. Leading and managing change and improvement: in clinical education is a recommended 30 credit module on the MA Clinical Education and also available as a stand-alone short course. The module is run by staff from the London Centre for Leadership in Learning and the London Deanery. The course will cover the following areas: • Leadership concepts, theory and evidence • Managing change in clinical education • Understanding organisations • Managing and motivating human resources • Systems thinking and complexity • Leadership, policy and educational change • Vision, values and the development of strategy • Leading for improvement |
