| Description | This course follows on from the Deanery’s one day workshop in Essential Supervision Skills for clinical teachers. It is suitable for people who have completed the one-day workshop at their trust or the Deanery, or who want to do the course because of a particular interest in conversational skills for supervision, appraisal, mentorship or coaching. We place an emphasis during the course on how to hold respectful but candid conversations with trainees, including how to discuss concerns about performance, conduct or health. We also consider how to integrate technical teaching with professional development and self-awareness. As well as providing opportunities for skills practice, there is some theoretical teaching and a certain amount of set reading before the course and between sessions. The course is based on participants' own working experience. Please come expecting to talk about current cases and dilemmas with patients, trainees, colleagues and teams.
